The Infinix Hot 40i is a basic phone done sensibly: it covers daily needs at a low price instead of chasing specs it cannot deliver. At Rs. 30,999 you get a 5000 mAh battery that easily lasts a day, a 32 MP selfie camera with its own LED flash, a smooth 90Hz screen and a dedicated memory card slot. The Unisoc T606 chip sets the limit: fine for calls, social apps and light games, but not built for heavy gaming.
Who it's for
- First-time smartphone buyers and parents: simple daily use, a full day of battery and a 3.5mm headphone jack, with a case and an 18W charger in the box.
- Selfie and video-call users: the 32 MP front camera with front flash gives decent results even indoors.
- Students on tight budgets: 128GB storage plus a memory card slot leaves room for apps, photos and recorded lectures.
Where it falls short
The 720p screen looks softer than Full HD rivals, and the T606 handles only light gaming. The gyroscope is software-based, which hurts aiming in shooting games, and video tops out at 1080p. The 4GB model also leans on virtual RAM, which is no substitute for real memory.
Worth comparing
The Infinix Hot 50i (Rs. 67,999) brings a smoother 120Hz screen, a larger 6.7-inch display, IP54 splash resistance and Android 14 out of the box. However, its 8 MP selfie camera is a big step down from the Hot 40i's 32 MP, and its 48 MP main camera is no upgrade, so selfie lovers lose out.

Infinix Hot 40i: Buyer's Guide
Is It Value for Money?
At Rs. 30,999, the Infinix Hot 40i makes sense for buyers who need a dependable everyday phone and care about battery life and selfies more than speed.
- Strengths: a 5000 mAh battery that lasts a full day, a 32 MP selfie camera with LED flash, a 90Hz screen, a dedicated memory card slot, a 3.5mm jack and a case plus 18W charger in the box.
- Weaknesses: a 720p screen, a Unisoc T606 chip that suits only light gaming, a software-based gyroscope and 1080p video only.
Opinions differ on the price: some buyers feel it should cost a little less for these specs.
Verdict: a sensible pick for students, parents and first-time smartphone users. Gamers should spend more on a phone with a stronger chip.
How Is the Display?
The Infinix Hot 40i has a 6.56-inch IPS LCD with HD+ (720 x 1612) resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate, rated at 480 nits peak.
- 90Hz makes scrolling and menus feel fluid, and touch response is quick.
- Colours look accurate, and brightness is good enough for normal indoor and outdoor use.
- At 720p, text and videos look softer than on Full HD screens.
The notch of the older Hot 30i is replaced by a centred punch-hole camera, and the Magic Ring animation around it shows charging and notifications.
How Is the Performance?
The Unisoc T606 (12 nm, octa-core) handles everyday tasks well: calls, WhatsApp, social media, browsing and video streaming run smoothly.
- Gaming: suitable for light games only. Heavy titles will need lower settings.
- Gyroscope: it is software-based, so motion aiming in shooting games is less accurate than on phones with a hardware gyroscope.
- RAM: the 4GB model can add up to 4GB of virtual RAM from storage, but virtual RAM is much slower than real RAM and does not make the phone faster.
Long gaming sessions and heat have not been tested yet.
How Is the Camera?
The rear has a 50 MP f/1.6 main camera with an auxiliary lens and LED flash. There is no ultrawide or zoom lens.
- Photos: indoor shots come out decent, with reasonable detail for the price. Outdoor and low-light results have not been tested yet.
- Selfies: the 32 MP f/2.2 front camera has its own LED flash, which helps with selfies and video calls in dim rooms.
- Video: both cameras record up to 1080p at 30fps.
Slow motion, Portrait, Panorama and Pro modes are all available.
How Is the Battery?
The Infinix Hot 40i has a 5000 mAh battery, and it easily lasts a full day of normal use.
- It supports 18W wired charging, and the 18W charger and Type-C cable come in the box. This is faster than the older Hot 30i.
- Reverse wired charging lets you top up earbuds or another phone with a cable.
Exact screen-on time and full charging time have not been measured yet.
How Is the Software?
The Infinix Hot 40i runs XOS 13 on Android 13 out of the box.
- Magic Ring shows charging status and notifications around the punch-hole camera.
- Virtual RAM can borrow storage to keep more apps open.
- A side-mounted fingerprint sensor handles unlocking.
Infinix has not published a software update commitment for the Hot 40i that we could verify. Ads and preinstalled apps have not been checked for this model.
Infinix Hot 40i: Questions Buyers Ask
Is the Infinix Hot 40i worth the price?
It is fair value for basic use. At Rs. 30,999 you get a 5000 mAh battery, a 32 MP selfie camera with flash, a 90Hz screen and a memory card slot. The 720p display and Unisoc T606 chip limit it to everyday tasks and light games.
Is the Infinix Hot 40i good for gaming?
Only for light gaming. The Unisoc T606 runs casual games and everyday apps smoothly, but heavy games need lower settings. Its gyroscope is software-based, which makes motion aiming in shooting games less accurate.
Does the Infinix Hot 40i have stereo speakers?
No. The Infinix Hot 40i has a single loudspeaker at the bottom, not stereo speakers. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired earphones.
How is the Infinix Hot 40i screen in daylight?
It is readable outdoors. The 6.56-inch IPS LCD is rated at 480 nits peak, and brightness is good enough for normal indoor and outdoor use, though it is not among the brightest screens and looks softer than Full HD panels.
How good is the Infinix Hot 40i's 32 MP selfie camera?
It is one of the phone's strengths. The 32 MP front camera gives decent detail, and its own LED flash helps in dim rooms and on video calls. Selfie video is limited to 1080p at 30fps.
