The Vivo Y04 is an entry-level smartphone built around battery life, durability, and everyday convenience rather than performance or photography. Its 5,500mAh battery can comfortably support extended use, with up to two days of normal usage possible, while the 90Hz HD+ display offers smoother scrolling and good outdoor visibility. The solid build, IP64 dust and water resistance, military-grade certification, dual-mode flashlight, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and 3.5mm headphone jack make it practical for everyday use. Its loud speaker and included 15W charger add convenience, and the 13MP rear camera supports portrait mode and 1080p video recording. However, the Vivo Y04 is best treated as a basic daily-use phone, not a device for demanding gaming, multitasking, or detailed photography.
The Unisoc T7225 processor is slow for heavier multitasking and gaming, so users who frequently switch between several apps may experience limitations. The 13MP rear camera produces soft, sometimes blurry photos with limited detail, and the 5MP selfie camera offers basic video quality without stabilization. Charging is another compromise: 15W charging takes roughly two hours to refill the large battery. The HD+ display is also less sharp than higher-resolution alternatives.
The Samsung Galaxy A07 is a stronger option for performance, with its Helio G99 processor, 50MP main camera, and 25W charging, although its battery is smaller. The Redmi 15C offers a larger 6,000mAh battery, a smoother 120Hz display, a 50MP rear camera, and faster 33W charging, making it a more capable all-round choice if your budget allows. The HONOR X6c adds a 50MP camera, a 120Hz display, and 35W charging, along with drop resistance. Choose the Vivo Y04 primarily for its durability, flashlight features, and long battery life; consider these alternatives if performance, photography, or charging speed matter more.

At the listed price of Rs. 49,999, the Vivo Y04 is hard to recommend on specs alone. Its strengths are a solid build, long battery life and a very bright dedicated torch light, but its chipset, cameras and charging speed are basic.
Main advantages:
Main compromises:
Alternatives: the Samsung Galaxy A07 (Rs. 35,599) costs much less and offers the stronger Helio G99, a 50MP camera, 25W charging and six major Android upgrades. The Honor X6c (Rs. 44,995) adds a 120Hz screen, a 50MP camera and 35W charging.
Verdict: a good fit for parents or anyone who wants a tough phone with long battery life for calls and light apps. Buyers who care about speed or photos should look at the Galaxy A07 or Honor X6c instead.
The Vivo Y04 has a large 6.74-inch IPS LCD with HD+ (720 x 1600) resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.
Brightness: the screen is bright enough to read comfortably in sunlight, and auto brightness works well.
Smoothness tip: out of the box, the refresh rate is set to Smart Switch, which lowers the refresh rate when it thinks you do not need it. Budget phones often switch at the wrong moments, so setting it to a fixed 90Hz in Display settings makes scrolling feel smoother, at a small cost to battery life.
Limitations:
The phone uses the Unisoc T7225 (12nm) chipset with 4GB RAM, and storage is the slower eMMC 5.1 type.
Everyday use: calls, WhatsApp, social media and browsing work without problems, and the phone does not feel slow for single tasks.
Multitasking: opening three or four apps at once slows it down noticeably.
Gaming: this is not a gaming phone. Light casual games are fine, but demanding games should be avoided.
Limitation: the Samsung Galaxy A07, which costs less, uses the stronger 6nm Helio G99 with faster UFS 2.2 storage, which suits buyers who want a smoother experience.
The Vivo Y04 has a 13MP main camera with a helper lens, and a 5MP selfie camera.
Daylight: in good light, colours are accurate and the main camera captures reasonable detail. Portrait mode works well in good light, and there are plenty of filters.
Weak spots: photos often lack sharpness and look soft, and a slight hand movement can blur them. In low light, both cameras struggle badly. The 5MP selfie camera is low resolution for the price.
Video: both cameras record up to 1080p at 30fps. Front-camera video has no real stabilisation.
Modes: portrait, panorama, document, slow motion, time-lapse, pro and live photo.
Comparison: the Galaxy A07 and Honor X6c both use 50MP main cameras, and the A07 also has an 8MP selfie camera.
Battery life is the Vivo Y04's biggest strength. It has a 5500mAh battery, and with normal use it lasts two days. Screen-on time can reach up to 9 hours.
Charging: it supports 15W charging, and a 15W charger is included in the box. A full charge takes a little over two hours, which is slow. Many rivals charge faster: the Galaxy A07 supports 25W and the Honor X6c supports 35W.
Torch light: a dedicated torch LED sits beside the camera flash and is much brighter than a normal phone flashlight, which is handy during power cuts.
The Vivo Y04 runs Android 14 with Funtouch OS 14. Vivo has not announced an Android upgrade plan for this phone, unlike the Galaxy A07, which promises six major upgrades.
AI features: the Gallery editor includes AI Erase to remove unwanted objects from photos, and AI Photo Enhance to sharpen blurry shots. Both need an internet connection.
Other features:
Speakers: reports differ. Some find the speakers loud with decent bass, while others note that the earpiece doubles as the speaker, without a separate speaker grille at the bottom.
Shoot in good light and hold the phone steady, because the 13MP camera blurs easily and struggles in the dark. Portrait mode works well in daylight, and AI Photo Enhance in the Gallery editor can sharpen a blurry shot when you are online.
