The standard iPhone 17 delivers a more complete everyday flagship experience, with a 120Hz variable-refresh-rate display, improved selfie camera, longer battery life, and powerful A19 chip. Its bright screen makes outdoor use easier, while the new square selfie sensor supports automatic portrait-to-landscape framing for group selfies and smoother selfie videos. The main camera produces strong photos, and the phone supports high-quality video recording for everyday content creation. With 256GB base storage, fast charging, MagSafe support, and IP68 water and dust resistance, it covers the essentials without requiring the Pro model. For most users who want a premium iPhone for daily use, social media, photography, and multitasking, the standard iPhone 17 offers a practical balance of features and performance.
The iPhone 17 still lacks a dedicated telephoto camera, limiting its flexibility for distant subjects compared with rivals offering optical zoom. USB 2.0 data-transfer speeds can also make moving large files slower, and the stock camera app does not let users capture the selfie sensor's full square image. Dual Capture offers creative options, but the front-camera layout cannot be repositioned after recording. Buyers seeking advanced manual video controls or sustained performance for demanding gaming may find the Pro models more suitable.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 offers a dedicated telephoto camera and a triple-camera setup, making it worth considering if optical zoom and Android flexibility matter more than iOS. The vivo X300 brings a high-resolution main camera, dedicated telephoto lens, and larger battery, appealing to photography enthusiasts who prioritize camera versatility and endurance. The Google Pixel 11 offers a dedicated telephoto camera with longer-range zoom and Google's computational photography features. The iPhone 17 counters with its strong A19 performance, smooth 120Hz display, improved selfie camera, and iOS experience, making the choice largely dependent on camera priorities and preferred software.

At Rs. 406,899 for the 256GB model listed on W4Mobiles, the iPhone 17 is the best-value iPhone of its generation. This year the base model finally gets the features that used to separate it from the Pro: a 120Hz ProMotion display with always-on mode, a brighter screen, a much better selfie camera, the fast A19 chip and 256GB storage as standard.
The iPhone 17 Pro adds a 4x telephoto, better gaming and ProRes video, but most people will not use those extras. On Android, the Google Pixel 11 (Rs. 329,999) costs less and adds a telephoto camera and a longer update promise, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra (Rs. 434,999) brings a 200 MP camera and S Pen. Verdict: if you want an iPhone, the 17 is the one most buyers should choose.
The 6.3-inch OLED display is now flagship quality. It finally has a variable 120Hz refresh rate that drops as low as one hertz to save power, which also enables an always-on display. Peak brightness reaches 3000 nits outdoors, so the screen stays easy to read in harsh sunlight, and the bezels are very thin. Colour reproduction is excellent, and the display is practically identical to the iPhone 17 Pro's.
The new anti-reflective coating cuts roughly a third of reflections compared with the iPhone 16, though Samsung's Ultra phones still handle glare better. Ceramic Shield 2 glass proved scratch resistant after weeks of use without a protector. People sensitive to flicker get a PWM dimming option in the accessibility settings. One limitation reported in some tests is that the refresh rate can hover around 80Hz when scrolling fast, though it is hard to notice in daily use.
The Apple A19 with 8GB RAM is one of the fastest chips available for single-core work, with plenty of headroom for future updates. App opening, multitasking and video editing are quick: a long 4K video export finished only seconds behind the iPhone 17 Pro. In a sustained stress test, the A19 scored almost 30% higher than the iPhone 16 and held its performance better, even beating last year's iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Gaming is the one area where the Pro pulls ahead. Apple caps the iPhone 17 at around 80fps in PUBG Mobile, while the 17 Pro reaches around 120fps. Gameplay is stable, and because of that cap the iPhone 17 actually ran 1 to 2 degrees cooler than the Pro, even without a vapour chamber.
Storage is slower than the Pro's, so large apps install noticeably slower, and the USB 2.0 port makes moving big video files to a computer slow.
The rear has a 48 MP main camera and a 48 MP ultrawide, but no telephoto lens. Main camera photos have Apple's warm, natural colours, and 2x portraits look very close to the iPhone 17 Pro's in daylight. Night photos are clear, sharp and balanced, though shooting against bright lights can cause some glare. Zoom beyond 2x is where the missing telephoto shows.
The standout upgrade is the new square selfie sensor with Center Stage. You can take vertical or horizontal 18 MP selfies without rotating the phone, and it widens automatically for group selfies. Selfie quality is excellent, and the extra sensor area gives much smoother stabilisation in walking selfie videos.
Video is very good, with stable 4K at 30 and 60fps from both cameras. A new Dual Capture mode records front and rear cameras at once. You give up ProRes recording, 4K 120fps slow motion and the Pro's four-mic audio.
The iPhone 17 has a 3692 mAh battery, physically larger than last year's. Its more efficient variable refresh rate display means it lasts longer in real use, comfortably through a full day, and in one comparison it gave about 20 minutes more screen-on time per day than the iPhone 17 Pro. Independent lab tests were more mixed, with one finding endurance slightly behind the iPhone 16 in some tasks, so expect solid all-day battery rather than a dramatic jump.
Charging is noticeably faster. Apple supports up to 40W wired charging, reaching 50% in 20 minutes with a suitable adapter; in a side-by-side test from empty, the 17 reached 26% in 10 minutes against 21% for the iPhone 16. Any good USB-C PD or PPS charger works. No charger comes in the box, only a USB-C cable. 25W MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging are supported.
The phone ships with iOS 26. Regular and Pro iPhones get the same software and the same length of support; Apple does not publish a fixed number of years, but iPhones have typically received around 6 to 7 years of updates. Early iOS 26 builds had bugs, including misplaced interface elements and occasional freezes, which Apple has been fixing in updates.
Apple Intelligence has seen few meaningful improvements, so do not buy the iPhone 17 for its AI features. The Camera Control button remains, though Apple has given it little attention this year. Useful additions include the always-on display, Center Stage for FaceTime calls and the Dual Capture camera mode.
For most people, no. The two share the same display, very similar main, ultrawide and selfie cameras, and everyday speed. The Pro is worth it only if you need the 4x telephoto, smoother high-frame-rate gaming, ProRes video or faster file transfers.
Yes, a big one. You get a brighter 120Hz always-on display, much faster A19 performance, longer battery life, faster charging, 5G, far better cameras including the new Center Stage selfie camera, and 256GB storage as standard.
Battery capacity is only part of the story. The A19 chip is very efficient, and the display can drop to one hertz when the screen content is still, which saves power. Apple also tunes iOS tightly to its own hardware, so a smaller battery can last as long or longer.
There is no charger in the box. Any good USB-C Power Delivery or PPS charger works; the iPhone 17 supports up to 40W wired charging, reaching 50% in about 20 minutes with a 40W or higher adapter. A higher-wattage charger is safe but will not charge it faster.
It depends on the model. International versions take one nano-SIM plus eSIM, US models are eSIM only, and only the China version takes two physical nano-SIMs. Check the model before buying, especially if you rely on a physical SIM in Pakistan.
Yes. Apple added a PWM dimming option, found in the accessibility display settings. Users sensitive to flicker report it helps, but it is turned off by default, so switch it on after setting up the phone.
